ACA Sustainability Summit to Focus on Blended Cements, Alternative Fuels, CCUS

The third annual American Cement Association (ACA) Sustainability Summit will feature presentations on the government’s permitting process and the impact it’s having on the advancement of alternative fuels, making the most out of working with lower-carbon cements at construction sites, and why producers view carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) development as “all systems a go” despite recent federal funding cuts for pivotal projects.

Offered free of charge but with participation capped, the virtual event will run Aug. 26-28 with 12-2:30 p.m. EST presentations on these themes:

  • Harnessing biomass and other alternatives for kiln fuel. How tree stumps, bark, sawdust, and even discarded tires can be recycled and reused safely to reduce combustion emissions and fortify resilient concrete.
  • The rise of lower-carbon blended cements. From laboratory research to real-world applications, industry professionals share their experiences and best practices with Types IL, IS, IP and IT binders.
  • Advancing CCUS. Understanding why the process remains a top decarbonization priority and how new tax incentives are accelerating investment.

“Aside from spotlighting sustainability efforts, this year’s summit focuses in part on how the industry is aligning with today’s policies and politics, while keeping its environmental objectives very much in its sights,” said ACA CEO Mike Ireland. “While 2025 has brought landmark changes in Washington that directly affect cement companies, the industry’s top goal of decarbonization remains the same.”

After a 30-minute break, the August 26-27 programs will respectively continue with an ACA Manufacturing Technical Committee Technology Forum and Blended Cements Virtual Roundtable, each running 3-4:30 p.m. EST. Registration details and the full ACA Sustainability Summit agenda are posted here.
